Features and Benefits
Learn how TrimJoist trimmable, open-web floor joists simplify framing with built-in MEP pathways, longer spans, wide flanges, and engineered strength. TrimJoist is designed for builders, engineers, and designers who value adaptability and precision without compromising strength.
Trimmable ends
Our unique trimmable ends allow the TrimJoist to be trimmed on the job site for an exact fit every time. Other trusses typically cannot be adjusted for site conditions that may not be exactly as expected..
Because each TrimJoist is trimmable on-site, contractors can always achieve a custom fit without the risk and lead time from standard custom floor trusses.
Because we also use a 23/32-inch-thick OSB (Oriented Strand Board) in our TrimEnd™ sections, the use of compression or “squash” blocks is almost entirely eliminated. Only under the heaviest of load conditions must additional blocking be used.
Open-Web Design
Unlike other solid wood I-joists, the TrimJoist features strut webbing. This eliminates the subcontractor’s need to cut drill holes through the floor system. The valuable floor cavity space is available for plumbing, electrical, and duct work. No more soffits or drop down ceilings!
The system's open web design allows subcontractors to easily, practically and quickly run electrical work, duct work and plumbing throughout the flooring system of any building.
Extra Wide Flanges
The TrimJoist features a 3.5-inch flange on both the top and bottom chords. This makes subfloor application simpler and quicker. The wide surface also allows for the application of more glue to resist the shearing action between the joist and subfloor.
Also, more nails hit their mark, thereby reducing the likelihood of squeaks. The extra-wide nailing surface provided by the TrimJoistmakes for a superior installation and more satisfied owners
CAD Details & Revit Families
We are committed to continually creating additional specification resources to make it easier for architects and engineers to design with TrimJoist from day one. Our single member sizing software, Revit families, and CAD details library can be found via the links below.
Engineered Strength + In-House Support
The engineered strength of the TrimJoist system provides for longer spans and wider on-center spacing that results in lower costs from both the material and the labor perspective.
Joists come in two-foot incremental lengths, beginning at 4 feet and spanning as far as 32 feet and can be trimmed by up to 24 inches — 12 inches on each side.
Trimjoist’s in-house engineering staff is always on hand to assist contractors, architects and building designers in plan conversion and design layout. They provide detailed floor-framing plans and precise material lists for each project, which ensures the joists are shipped and installed right the first time.
BUILT IN THE USA
The TrimJoist floor system is manufactured entirely in the United States. This allows for us to employ those in our local community, achieve a higher standard of quality control and guarantee timely delivery.
Trimjoist introduced the first trimmable floor joist system to the building industry and is the only corporation with a patent on a trimmable floor joist.
Third Party Quality Assurance
Our products are fabricated under third party quality assurance by Dr J / CBI.

Available at Local Building Supply
Since the TrimJoist is available from stock at any authorized dealer, there are no lead times. Any overage or underage can be handled by your building supplier — not a factory, which may impose a surcharge for an “extra” truss.
